Rob Sutherland began his photography career working on expedition in the Amazon Rainforest, working with a trusty old Nikkormat FT3 and a couple of scrounged lenses to create both beautiful images of the jungle as well as a record of the expedition’s work and life. He has shot in all climatic extremes since these days in the humid tropics, from deserts to the arctic wilderness.

Rob’s first love is photographing the dramatic landscape of his home in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Now based in Drumnadrochit he is able to cover the whole of the northern half of Scotland with ease, and covers this vast area as a commercial photographer working in a wide variety of fields. He is always striving to bring something “extra” to his work, both injecting his own personality and that of his client into the final imagary.

As well as photography Rob has embraced the aerial world through the use of drones and now covers both stills and videography from both the ground and the air. He is also able to pull aspects of a diverse career into his work - be it as a musician shooting other musicians, an archaeologist drawing inspiration from the past or an engineer working to provide aerial surveys for his clients, or even drawing on a background in architecture to aid production of floorplans for short term lets and property sales.

Rob holds a BSc: Archaeology, MSc: ICT and MSc: Architecture (Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies)

Rob’s photography is fabulous clearly imaginative, clearly beautiful and professional

Whilst Rob currently doesn’t maintain a fixed studio, working as a location photographer, this may change in the future. For the moment he operates from the family home in Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness, where he also volunteers on the RNLI Crew as Launch Authority.

There are plans afoot for a permanent studio as well as venturing into tuition, guiding and general workshops which will incorporate a wide range of subjects and skills… as well as offering something a little different to the market than anything currently available!
