Stormy Skye
Today’s job saw me on a truly epic drive out to Skye. The weather was pretty reasonable when I set off this morning, so much so that I packed a load of extra kit for some content creation whilst I was out and about! It’s not often I find myself on the Atlantic coast of the island after all, so I really wanted to make the most of it! Just after crossing the bridge things started to take a turn for the worse - the rain intensified from mizzle to drizzle to squally showers to an almighty downpour. The wind picked up from a breeze to a gale, so strong that waterfalls were flowing upwards and standing was, at times, quite a challenge.
So most of the additional accessories stayed in their bags! I did manage one “artsy” photograph of an old ruin which I thought would look best in monochrome to accentuate the bleakness of the weather. It works, it works really well!
The actual house I was out to photograph… well… it won’t be in the Sunday Times. The interior needs a lot of work, and the exterior didn’t even win out with stunning west Skye scenery due to the weather, which is a shame as I was hoping for some solid vistas. The problem with these long distance jobs is that they can’t be moved at the drop of a hat to suit the weather as the logistical exercise in getting there and back with childcare, transport (it’s winter - so the EV is going to struggle with the range, which means borrowing Jen’s diesel for the day rather than face the slow chargers in Broadford to get me home again!)
On that point, I do keep wondering about picking up a small 4 wheel drive car that runs on petrol purely for winter trips when I simply don’t have the time to get a charge in. Something like a 4x4 Panda perhaps, shod with winter tyres and a couple of sets of snowchains in the boot!
I am not going to put up today’s work shots as there were few redeeming features to make anything stand out. It will make a nice house for someone with the time and money to work on it though.
