About
My name is Rob Sutherland, we moved to Drumnadrochit in the Scottish Highlands in December 2020 to start a new life, a new career and be in an environment that we love.
It all started when…
We lost the “original” Wayward Spirit. You may have stumbled here accidentally looking for him, he looked a bit like me. He was my big brother, an absolute legend amongst those who knew him, the only person who often “understood” me and probably one of the largest influences on my life.
He always had a devil-may-care attitude in shooting for his dreams, and that is what this is all about.
Following his death, and a car crash which ended my career in engineering, I decided to take a leaf out of his book and chase my own dreams. People had been telling me for years to go for it, from the late, great Hank Pennington to the current and great David du Chemin in the old days of the Travel Photographers Network. Cameras are lighter than sewage pumps so I thought I would give it a go!
What we do….
In my first year of working as a full time, professional, photographer I have won the “Property Photography of the Year, 2021” award and built up a client list including: Your Move, Purple Bricks, The National Trust for Scotland, Go Your Tour, Interhome, AirB&B and others. I work exclusively with Nikon “full frame” cameras for traditional stills, Ricoh Theta cameras for 360 degree photography (along with Matterport for virtual tours) and DJI drones for anything aerial. I shoot stills and video and edit in Photoshop for stills and Da Vinci for video.
I specialise in Real Estate and Landscape Photography primarily, but also work happily in all other areas from commercial to weddings and events to portraits.
I started out my career as an archaeologist, which led to working in the Amazon as an expedition photographer and anthropologist before taking on a range of different roles that took me almost full circle. In the future we will be offering workshops and tours based on photography as well as history and archaeology… perhaps other fields of interest too… and combining different aspects to create some truly memorable experiences whilst improving your photography and portfolios!
